From Howard V. Jones fide Dogwoods to Bluebonnets As for John who m. Mary Buchanan, as I said earlier, there were two of them.
- John Edmiston, s/o John II, married one, apparently the daughter of Samuel Buchanan II.
- John Edmondson, s/o William Edmiston Sr., married Mary Buchanan, d/o Andrew & Joanna Hay.
The former went to Davidson Co. TN, the latter stayed in WCV. It took me several years to get that one figured out.

- Person:John Edmondson (XXX)=Mary Buchanan, is son of Person:John Edmiston (5)
- Superfiscially Its difficult to tell which one went to the Cumberland Settlements and which remained in SW VA, and a potential confusion is possible despite Howard's work on this line. More work needed here to make it explicit how he knows that the son of William Edmiston (3) is the one that went to the Cumberland Settlement
