    Charles and his brother John Caldwell came to New England from Beith, Scotland around 1718. Charles married in 1724 to Anna Ruggles, the daughter of Thomas and Sara (Fiske) Ruggles. They settled in Guilford, Connecticut and had five children. Charles died in 1765 while his wife died in 1760. John Caldwell was married when he came to New England but nothing is known about his first wife. He married Hannah Stillman who married Neil McLean after John's death. John died in 1734 in Hartford, Connecticut. John and Hannah had six children.
