It is not certain whether his mother was Elizabeth or Christina. However, his father Peter is listed with wife Eliza in a 1795 revision list (B.H. Unruh p. 244), so it is reasonable to believe that Johann was Elizabeth's child.

    'The translators of the Reinlander Gemeinde Buch have used a birthdate of 25.12.1798 for Johann Klassen. If this is correct, then the above Johann Klassen b. 1795 is not the Johann Klassen who married Maria Martens. I have seen a copy of the original page which I read as 1795, and therefore believe the above to be correct.'
