Notes for JOAN ELAINE CRUMLEY: ANTIOCH, Calif. -- Joan Hipskind, 70, Antioch, Calif. died Monday, Nov. 25, here. She was born on June 5, 1932, in Huntington. She was raised in Wabash and attended the public schools. In her senior year at Wabash High School, she was selected by Mark C. Honeywell to paint the Apache Indian murals on the walls of the Apache Teen Canteen in the Honeywell Memorial Center. She married J. Richard Hipskind on Sept. 2, 1950, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. They just celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. Her husband is a retired Boy Scout executive and together over their 38-year career, they served in nine Boy Scout councils in Indiana, California, Okalhoma and Tokyo, Japan. Mrs. Hipskinds's career was in fine jewelry. Surviving along with her husband are four children, Randall Hipskind and Lisa Lujan, Maui, Hawaii; David (Cathy) Hipskind, Lodi, Calif., and Steven (Jennifer) Hipskind, Allen, Texas; a sister, Diana Koerner, Warsaw; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her father, Gene E. Crumley, her mother, Wilda Penn, and her brother, Gene Crumley, are deceased. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Antioch, Calif. The Higgins Chapel, Antioch, Calif. is in charge of arrangements.
