J. A. Kendrick, bought and sold farms, moving the family several times between Claiborne and Bossier Parish. She remembered a pair of pearl handled revolvers when he was sheriff of Plain Dealing. He was not much of a drinker, but was an avid hunter. In fact, on a hunting trip he got wet and chilled, and died soon afterwards of pneumonia. He is buried in the Masonic Plot in the Old Plain Dealing Cemetery.
