JESSE LORD, RETIRED TEACHER, SUCCUMBS
Jesse Lord, 71, of Brazil [Clay County, Indiana], former resident of Corydon, died last Thursday afternoon at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis. Mr. Lord submitted to major surgery several months ago, but leukemia developed which caused his death.
Mr. Lord was born in Nebraska. After the death of his father, Samuel Lord, his mother, Mrs. Sarah Gilmore Lord, returned to this county with her family. Mr. Lord was a graduate of Indiana Teachers College at Terre Haute and received his Masters Degree at Indiana University. He taught his first schools in this county at Depauw and Mauckport. Mr. Lord taught in the high school at Terre Haute for many years before retiring. The deceased was a veteran of World War I having served in France with an Ambulance Corps.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Hickman Funeral Home at Terre Haute conducted by the Rev. Philip Stone, formerly of Corydon. Interment was in a Mausoleum in Rose Lawn Memorial Park there. The pallbearers were Olin, Earl and George Grable, Elmer Cline and Kenneth Lord, nephews, and Robert Gillaspy.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Lord, a daughter, Mrs. Russell (Martha) Slick of Cartersville, Ga.; three grandchildren, a brother, Sam Lord, of Corydon, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were three brothers and two sisters, James, Edgar and David Lord, Mrs. Anna Grable and Mrs. Sallie Cline.
