Obituary

 MURPHY - J. Donald Murphy, aged 92, of Fremont, passed away on Monday at Gerber Memorial Health Services.  He was born in Garfield Twp. on September 23, 1901 to James and Effie Murphy.  He married Margaret Duiven on December 25, 1931 in Grand Rapids.  She preceded him in death on June 28, 1982.  Mr. Murphy graduated from Fremont High School, received his B.A. degree in Social Science from Western Michigan University in 1926.  In 1932 he graduated from University of Michigan Law School.  He was a teacher in Trenton for over nine years before returning to Fremont in 1938.  He was prosecuting attorney for Newaygo County from 1939 to 1951 when he became President of Michigan Prosecuting Attorney's Assoc.  His private law practice in Newaygo County spanned 56 years.  He was a member of Fremont Congregational Church United Church of Christ.  He was a board member of the Old State Bank since 1947 and former chairman of the board.  He served on the Fremont School Board for 12 years and was a past president.  He was a former board member of the Fremont Area Foundation.  He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. David (Carol) Fleisher Sr. of Webster, MO; two grandchildren, Mrs. Daniel P. (Susan) Dooley of Arlington, VA, Mr. David (Leah Ann) Fleisher Jr. of Kirkwood, MO;  two great-grandchildren, Monica and Caroline; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Gorham of Montague.  Funeral Services Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Fremont Congregational Church United Church of Christ.  Interment Maple Grove Cemetery.  Visitation 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Wednesday at Crandell Funeral Home.
