    "… James Brown, who was probably born in England about 1623 and died at Swansea 29 September 1710 aged 87, son of John and Dorothy (_____) Brown. James was one of the original members of the Swansea Church, but later helped organize the Baptist Church in Swansea, the first Baptist Church in Massachusetts. He was very active as the records of the Baptist Church show: … was chosen a Deputy 5 June 1666 and a selectman for Rehoboth 5 June 1667. He became a freeman from Swansey 29 May 1670. He served as a Deputy from Swansey 1669 to 1672, and as an Assistant from 1673 to 1683. …

    James Brown of Swansey, Gentleman, made his will 25 October 1694, proved 11 January 1710/1 naming his sons James and Jabez and his daughter Dorothy Kent. On 11 January 1711 Lydia Brown, widow of James, was named executor of his estate; Jabez Howland and Josiah Howland were the sureties."
