    Auf der Farm seines Tochtermanns Georg Henger, nahe der Zions-Kirche, an der Landstraße wischen Dayton und Miamisburg, wo er sich zeitweilig zu Besuch aufhielt, starb am Donnerstag, den 18. Februar 1904, der hochbetagte Jakob Guhl, in Folge von Verletzungen, die ihm von einem wildgewordenen Stier zugefügt worden waren.
    Jakob Guhl war geboren am 31. Juli 1821 in Mülheim am Bach, Oberamts Sulz, Königreich Württemberg, war also zur Zeit seines Todes 82 Jahre, 6 Monate und 17 Tage alt. Nachdem er die Dorfschule seines Heimathorts durchgemacht hatte, wurde er, 14 Jahre alt, zur Erlernung des Schusterhandwerks in die Lehre gegeben.
    Als junger Mann von 26 Jahren wanderte er nach den Vereinigten Staaten aus, ließ sich in Miamisburg nieder und arbeitete da auf seinem Handwerk. Im Jahre 1849 verehelichte er sich mit Fräulein Christine Strobel und lebte mit ihr 54 Jahre in glücklicher Ehe, bis der Tod im Dezember 1903 sie von Seite riß. Seit 1850 hatte Herr Guhl mit seiner Familie in Alexanderville gewohnt und war, bis etwa ein Jahr vor seinem Tode, in seinem Geschäft thätig. Es überleben ihn zwei Töchter, Elisabeth, Frau von Georg Henger, und Louise, Frau von Charles Dubel in Dayton, ferner 2 Enkel eine Schwester, Frau Christine Bühner, die Mutter des Herrn J. F. Bühner in Miamisburg und zwei Brüder im alten Vaterland.
    Der alte Herr war ein treues Mitglied der lutherischen Kirche bis an sein Ende, ein guter Gatte und Vater, ein biederer Mann, geehrt und geachtet von Allen, die mit ihm in Berührung kamen.
