[edit] ObituaryJacob Yockey, aged 88, died at 7:15 o'clock Saturday morning at the St. Vincent hospital, following an operation Friday for bladder trouble. He had been in bad health for about two months. Mr. Yockey was born in Chambersburg, Penn., Nov. 17, 1835, where he spent his boyhood. The family later moved on a farm near Wadsworth. He was later employed in a drug store at Akron, Ohio, where he remained for a number of years. He then came to Columbus, Ind., where he taught in the district schools. He was married to Sarah Martin at Indianapolis, Aug. 11, 1864. After their marriage they moved to Illinois on a farm south of Mt. Auburn, having been persuaded to come to Illinois by an uncle. Mr. Yockey worked as a hired hand for his uncle, later purchasing this farm which he owned at the time of his death. He also owned a farm north of Willway, Ill. In politics he was an ardent Democrat. He was a great reader and took an interest in all current events until the time of his death. He joined the Reformed church in Ohio. After moving to Illinois he was a charter member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Grove City. Mr. Yockey is survived by his wife, Sarah Yockey and six children, two sons, Dr. W. M. Yockey of Decatur; Atty. Arthur Yockey of Taylorville; four daughters, Louisa, Emma, Jane and Ellen, all of Taylorville; one grandchild, Floyd Leland Yockey, son of Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Yockey of Decatur. He also leaves two brothers, William of Wadsworth, O., and Rev. Samuel Yockey of Springfield, Ohio. The funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the family residence. Burial will be made in the Oak Hill cemetery.
