  6. 6.0 6.1 Contrary to Ruth Eddy's assertion that he spelled his name Meriam, it appears his name was spelled Marion/Merion pretty consistently until he moved to Ashburnham, at which time the spelling seems to have changed. Whether this was due to the unfamiliarity of the town clerk with the name, or a conscious decision, the Ashburnham branch, at least, seems to have kept the Meriam spelling.
