His mother died after his birth and he was raised by his aunt and uncle Harm and Sena Laug and took their name.

Obituary (with picture) RITES ARE HELD FOR HAROLD LAUG

  Funeral services for Harold Laug, 71, were held Saturday from the Coopersville Reformed Church.  A rural mail carrier in Coopersville for 47 years before  retiring in 1965, he passed away very unexpectedly Thursday morning at the North Ottawa Hospital.  He had served on the Consistory of the Coopersville Reformed Church and had also served as Sunday School Superintendent and a Sunday School teacher for a number of years.
  Mr. Laug had been working with the Easter Seal Society for the past several years.  He also had an active interest in Boys State.
   Mr. Laug was born May 21, 1897.  He married the former Lottie Lillie, and they celebrated their Fiftieth Anniversary last year.
  Surviving are his wife, Lottie; one son, Maurice C. of Canajoharie, N.Y., and four grandchildren.
   Interment was in Coopersville Cemetery.  Arrangements were by the Throop Funeral Home, Coopersville.

Obituary LAUG - Harold G. Laug, aged 71, of Coopersville, passed away very unexpectedly Thursday morning at the North Ottawa Hospital in Grand Haven. Surviving are the wife, Lottie, one son, Maurice C., of Canajoharie, N.Y. four grandchildren, Deborah A., student at Hope College, Maurice Charles, Nancy H. and Lise Lynn all at home. Mr. Laug will repose at the Throop Funderal Home Coopersville until Saturday morning, then he will be taken to the Coopersville Reformed church for funeral services at 11 o'clock. Interment Coopersville Cemetery. Relatives will meet in the church parlors at 10:45. Mr. Laug was a rural mail carrier in the Coopersville Postal Dept., for 47 years, retiring in 1965. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may leave donations at the funeral home to be applied toward a memorial fund.
