    Death of Mrs. Blackwood Daughter of War Hero.

    Spent Early Life in Syracuse and in Later Years Often Visited Here.

    Mrs. Emma Jerome Blackwood, who spent much of her early life in this city, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur G. Dickson, at Paoli, Pa.

    Mrs. Blackwood was the daughter of Maj. E. Kirby Smith, who was killed in the Mexican war, and a sister of Col. J. L. Kirby Smith, who met death in the battle of Corinth during the civil war. She was the widow of Dr. William Blackwood of Lancaster, Pa. She is survived by one son, Dr. Norman Blackwood, surgeon in the United State navy, and two daughters, Mrs. Barent Van Kleeck of Bryn Mawr and Mrs. Arthur J. Dickson of Paoli, Pa.

    The funeral will be held at the home of her daughter tomorrow and burial will be in Lancaster.
