ELIZABETH BECKNER. --- Elizabeth Ann (Howerton) Beckner was born in Rhea county, Tenn,. Sept. 29, 1822, and died at her home near Argos, March 19, 1903. On July 22, 1841 she was married to Samuel Beckner, deceased. To this union was born twelve children, two of who preceded their mother in death. With her husband and family she moved to Marshall county, near Bremen, in 1863, and in 1874 to the present home near Argos. She united first with the Baptist church, but after coming Indiana joined the German Baptist or Brethren church, living an exemplary life and maintaining a Christ like spirit at all times. She was a kind and affectionate companion, an indulgent mother, a good neighbor, ever ready to assist the needy, loved and respected by all who knew her, and will be greatly missed. Funeral services were conducted by Elder Daniel Wysong, of Nappanee, at the Brethren church, six miles southeast of Argos; internment in the cemetery near by.
