Edward and Ann with their 5 children and Joseph ABBOTT sailed on the 'General Hewitt' from Plymouth, England in 1854. After arriving they set out for Queensland and arrived in Morton Bay on the 16 December 1854 to be met by two of Ann's brothers who had come to Queensland a couple of years earlier. On the 14 August 1875 Edward was granted a 180 acres first class pastoral land by the Land Court at Meringandan, a small country locality in the Toowoomba Region on the Darling Downs.
