    RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 3. - Edward E. Barney, president of the Virginia Navigation company, shot himself at the home on James river during the morning and has since died from the effect of the wound. No cause is assigned. The deceased was born in Dayton, O., was 54 years old, and a son of Barney of the Dayton car works. He inherited a large fortune and coming to Virginia bought Hog Island and other property on the James river. He leaves a widow and several children.
