Christopher Fox was baptised on 28th August 1763 at Wymeswold in Leicestershire, son of John Fox and his wife Elizabeth.

On 23rd February 1789, aged 25, Christopher married Hannah Wild. She was originally from Owthorpe in Nottinghamshire, about ten miles north-east of Wymeswold, but at the time of their marriage she was living in Leicester, where they married at St Margaret's church. Christopher was described as living at Thorpe in the Glebe at the time of their marriage, which was a parish immediately north of Wymeswold, but just over the county boundary into Nottinghamshire. Thorpe in the Glebe village had lost most of its population by this time and the church there had been abandoned some time during the 1700s, apparently being in use in 1730 but ruined by 1790.[5]

After their marriage, Christopher and Hannah initially returned to Thorpe in the Glebe. They had two daughters baptised at Wymeswold: Elizabeth in 1789 (who gave her place of birth as Thorpe in the 1851 census) and Mary in 1792, whose baptism record at Wymeswold notes that the family actually lived at Thorbe in the Glebe.

Some time between 1792 and 1818 the family left Thorpe in the Glebe and moved about sixteen miles south-west to Thornton in Leicestershire. Christopher's younger daughter Mary was married there in 1818 to Barnabas Sharp, a hosier from Sunderland, nearly 200 miles north of Thornton.

At Thornton, Christopher ran a mixed farm, rearing sheep, cows and pigs, and growing wheat, barley, oats, beans and turnips. He also appears to have produced cheese, with the inventory drawn up after his death specifically mentioning a cheese press and vats and one ton of cheese being in his possession.

Christopher died on 2nd June 1833, aged 69. Hannah survived him by fourteen years.
