Obituary taken from the Bryan Times, Jan. 29, 1983, p. 3 CHESTER H. BANKS Montpelier -- Chester H. Banks, 80, 201 Franks St., Montpelier, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1983, in Toledo Hospital following a two week illness. Born July 8, 1902 in North Carolina, he was the son of Nancy (Schultz) and William Banks. He was a resident of Montpelier for most of his adult life except for a 12 year period when he lived near Camden, Mich. Mr. Banks retired as a passenger train conducter for the Norfolk and Western Railroad in 1969 after 43 years of railroad service. He was a member of the UTU, and attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Montpelier. Surviving are his wife Helen; three sons, Darrell of Glendale, Ariz., and Dennis and Donald, both of Montpelier; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (June) Oyer, Montpelier, Mrs. Joe (Ardith) Gearhart, Route 2, West Unity, and Mrs. Wilber (Donna) Hinton, Route 1, Liberty Center; 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and three sisters, Isaac Briggs, Geneve Briggs, Gladis Briggs, Mrs. Goldie Street, all of Unicoi, Tenn., and Grady Briggs, Erwin, Tenn. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier, with the Rev. L. Eugene McCormack officiating. Burial is to be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or to the Montpelier EMS. References
