According to the book, History of Chelmsford Massachusetts by the Rev. Wilson Waters, Charles Mclane, enlisted by Benj. Byam, born in Chelmsford, Age 17. Fought in the French-Indian war.

Believe he served in the British Army as an ensign in 1762.

Later joined 3rd Continental Artillery regiment, deserted and joined Hazen's regiment, then Penn. regiment where he was severly wounded by musket balls to the leg and thigh.

Gail Mclain has that Charles ended up in Pennsylvania.
