1. French family was from Dillon, MT. (HSB) 2. Cause of death: Lobar Pneumonia 3. Charles was a widower when he married Mary. 4. Marriage License to Mary in 1910 gives his age as 39 - this would make his birth year about 1871. Date of birth calculated from age on Death Certificate is about 1869. 5 The 1891-92 Butte City Directory lists a Charles D. French, bookkeeper at the Troy Steam Laundry Co., living in rooms at 9 North Washington. Digital image <ancestry.com>, 12 January 2006. The 1902 Butte City Directory lists a Charles D. French, in the Departement of the Collector of Internal Revenue, 17 West Broadway, living in rooms at 13 Lizzie Block. Digital image <ancestry.com>, 12 January 2006. This is probably a different Charles French 6. Source 165 identifies the second husband of Mayme as Charles D. French, born about 1869. This Charles had a first wife named Ella Julia Spoor. In 1900 there were at least 2 men in Butte named Charles French; one a bookkeeper, the other a laborer. During a court hearing over the custody of Mayme's daughter, Mayme's husband testified that as his line of work, he ". . . took what he could find." That seems consistent with the occupation of laborer. The question of which Charles French was married to Julia Spoor needs further examination. 7. See entry for Ella Spoor in this database, Family #2487.
