  6. Letter
from Cecile to Norma Strang Larsen.

Norma, this letter has grown and grown and it's a good thing I like, or don't mind writing or it wouldn't be so. You may have to put it down and read it in installments. Maybe you think, and your husband too, that if you really met me, you wouldn't be able to get a word in edgewise.

No, that's not really true. I'm a good listener. My husband is quite a talker and has some good views altho' they may seem a little ridged and harsh to some when it comes to dealing with the criminal, abortion promiscuity, etc. or many of the topics of the day, not to overlook the conditions in the schools these days, but who doesn't if they want to save this Nation from ruin!

  7. Letter
from Cecile to Norma Strang Larsen.

I read that Mormon families set aside Monday nights for family togetherness and reverence. Wish there were more of that with other peoples and maybe help stamp out some of the wickedness in this land of ours.

  8. Letter
from Cecile to Norma Strang Larsen.

I think it is a privilege to have been born and lived in the beauty of this earth and we should not abuse that privilege while here, but rather lead clean lives and try to leave some mark of good as our legacy when it comes time to leave. Thank you, our Divine Creator, for our many blessings and the bonds of relationship to provide that special closeness we have one for another.

  9. Letter
from Cecile to Norma Strang Larsen.

When I was just a few years older than that time, I would go by myself to spend a few days with Aunt Electa and be her little girl, for she had none of her own. She put me to bed in an upstairs bedroom and how I loved to wake up in the morning with the summer sun shining in an East window, smell something good from the kitchen. When I got downstairs, the men had been long gone to the fields, and for breakfast they had eaten potatoes, sweet corn, and a sponge cake baked in the oven of the kitchen range that morning. She, too, worked very hard. It was those times when she taught me to tat and I've never forgotten the art of doing so.

I'd run to her every few minutes for more instruction in the midst of her work and Uncle George offered me a nickel if I just wouldn't bother her when she was busy. I couldn't turn down an offer like that. So in the box which I'm sending to you is a specimen of her tatting which she made for my Mother to be used as a scarf on our library table which was in our living room. Everyone had a library table of one sort or another in those days.

  10. Letter
from Cecile to Norma Strang Larsen.

Aunt Electa – I was her little girl, too, as well as my mother's. She taught me to tat and I kept running to her for help when she was very busy, and bothering her, so Uncle George said he's give me a nickel if I'd quit, so I very readily shut up.

  18. Letter
from Cecile to Norma Strang Larsen.

I've felt old, in spirit at least, during the past months. My Mother and I were real pals and it wasn't easy to part with her, particularly in face of the fact that she had such a terrific death. You may not have heard that she had to undergo the amputation of her right leg at the hip–all caused by a blood clot and gangrene.

  20. Letter
from Cecile to Norma Strang Larsen.

For the past eleven years, my husband has delivered new G.M. trucks to distant points on week-ends and during the summer months. When we went to California, he delivered at Albuquerque and I drove the car along with him that far and then we proceeded together for the rest of the trip. When we went to Fla. I drove alone to Chattanooga where he left two trucks. He has an Aunt in Denver and would like to arrange things the same way. If he did, I might do a little more "arranging" to come on to Salt lake –two cities we have never visited and I think both must be nice spots.

My father lives with us and I worry a little to be gone very long at a time, leaving him alone. He's nearly 84 years old and in good health. When are you coming to Michigan? Your roots are probably in the West.
