    JOHN GROUT
    Died February 23, 1911.
    BRIDGET
    Wife of
    John Grout
    died May 29, 1879
    aged 36 yrs.
    Also her son
    Michael
    died Aug. 10, 1891
    Aged 22 years.
[Note: the memorial gives Bridget's birth as 1840 even though age at death suggests 1843.]

  3. Bridget is not listed with her family on the 1880 census record in Plymouth, Luzerne, PA.
  4. According to an unsourced note of unknown reliability on daughter Elizabeth's page, Bridget's family came to the United States in 1845. If this is correct, then Bridget was born in Ireland, not Pennsylvania as census records indicate.
  5. Son Richard's 1880 census record entry would indicate that his biological mother was born in Pennsylvania. Caution must be taken with this information as his step-mother was also born in Pennsylvania and it is possible that her information was written down instead for convenience sake.
[Note: there is no evidence the father married twice. Unless evidence is added, this appears to be a mistaken assumption based on the inconsistent ages found in various census records.]
  6. Son Richard's 1900 census record entry indicates that his biological mother was born in Ireland.
