Berthuld Johnson JOHNSON -Berthuld Thomas Johnson, faithful servant of Jesus Christ, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 19, 2006 with his wife and family at his side. He was 88 years old. <names of living individuals have been removed> Bert was predeceased by parents Thomas and Emma Johnson, brother Tommy and son-in-law Evans Griffith. He is survived by two sisters, Eileen Dolden and Iris Goodfellow, Toronto. Bert was born in Galetta ON March 11, 1917. His parents moved to Asquith, SK in 1918. Bert grew up on a farm in the Avondale district. He owned and operated the McCorkle garage and lighting plant in Maymont in 1940. He married <living> McMillan, Juniata SK on Oct. 19, 1940. He enlisted in the RCAF in 1942 and was stationed in Bagotville, PQ and Halifax, NS as a link trainer technician. While in Halifax, Bert sensed God's call and chose to become a pastor. After the war Bert and Greta moved to Saskatoon. In 1950 Bert graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BA. After a summer pastorate in Torch River, SK he took a temporary pastorate in North Battleford at First Baptist Church. Fifty years later he retired from Christian ministry in the same church. Bert's ministry included pastoring, evangelistic work and tract distribution in the Prairie provinces, the News for the Nation newspaper and radio program on CJNB, a boarding school in Battleford for Indian children and a church camp near Prongua, SK. As a bivocational pastor Bert owned and operated Dominion Concrete and BT Johnson Scales. He was an inventor with several patents to his credit. He was a faithful husband and father and took delight in his extended family. His greatest love was God. His favorite book, the Bible. His greatest discovery was justification by faith. His greatest passion, introducing others to Jesus Christ. The family is grateful to Pastor Ron Braun and the caring family of Community Baptist Church. Thanks also to Dr. Jim Johnson, the Battlefords Home Care personnel and the third floor staff of the Battlefords District Care Centre for kind, compassionate care. Bert will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. He leaves family and friends a legacy of generosity and humility. His hard work and compassion demonstrated his strong faith in God. His family fondly remembers their dad's favorite benediction, Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Jude 24-25. Funeral Service will be held at Territorial Drive Alliance Church, North Battleford, SK on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Ron Braun officiating. Interment will follow at the Veteran's Section, Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, North Battleford, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Baptist Church building fund, 2622 Campbell Cres., North Battleford SK S9A 3S2.
