Bertha Droge, 97, went home to be with her Lord on Monday evening, June 15, 2009, at the Churchill Retirement Home, Personal Care Wing. She was born on March 31, 1912, in the Holland Settlement near Manhattan, to Elke and Jennie (Braaksma) Weidenaar. She attended the Little Holland School. Bertha married Peter Droge in October 1931 in Manhattan. The couple made their home in Sappington for 25 years and Three Forks for 33 years before moving to Churchill in 1994. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family always came first. Bertha will be remembered for her wonderful pies and for being a talented seamstress and homemaker. Bertha was active in the Three Forks Senior Center and was a lifelong member of the Manhattan Christian Reformed Church and long-time member of the Dorcas Guild. She is survived by her sons, Al (Arletta) Droge of Pequot Lakes, Minn., and J. (Nella) Droge of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Jo (Ed) Spoelstra of Bozeman; sister, Betty Dyk of Manhattan; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter in 1995; brothers, John and Bill Weidenaar; sister, Edith Sinnema; and daughter-in-law, Eunice Droge. Visitation for Bertha will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. Private family interment will take place in Churchill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church on Churchill. References
