"Barbara L. (Wardwell) Pollen, 71, of Highland Village, Shelburne Falls, and formerly of Ashfield, a home health aide for Franklin County Home Care in Turners Falls, died Saturday in a local nursing home. She retired in 1988. She had been a hairdresser in Castine, Maine. She was born in Penobscot, Maine, and was graduated from Castine High School. She leaves two sons, Steven R. of Franklin, and Jeffrey M. of Hawley; a daughter, Linda M. Van Guilder of Ashfield; two sisters, Margery Smith of Monroe, Maine, and Margaret Bowden of Castine; six grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday morning at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ashfield. There are no calling hours, and memorial contributions may go to the Greenfield Area Animal Shelter, French King Highway, Greenfield, 01301.
