Funeral services for Arthur M. Stillman, 90, were conducted Monday at North Loup. Mr. Stillman died Feb. 23 at Ord.
The Rev. Victor Skaggs officiated at the 2 p.m. rites at the Seventh Day Baptist Church. Rev. and Mrs. Mynor Soper sang "In The Garden", "Saved By Grace" and "Nailed To The Cross" accompanied by organist Mrs. Louise Brennick. Pallbearers were Hillis Coleman, Victor Cook, Vernon Williams, Melvin Williams, Udel Williams and Horace Williams. The Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery at North Loup.
Born at Nortonville, Kan. On Oct. 21, 1882, Mr. Stillman was the son of Joseph and Ada Burdick Stillman. He married Matie Williams on Jan 1, 1903 at Gentry, Ark. And this year the couple observed their 70th wedding anniversary. The Stillmans homesteaded in Oklahoma for several years and in 1910 they moved to Valley County in a covered wagon.
In the North Loup area, Mr. Stillman had been active in many community affairs. He served as a school board member of District #1 for 23 years; served as a deacon of the Seventh Day Baptist Church for a number of years and was past president of the North Loup Cheese Board.
Survivors include his wife Matie of North Loup; sons Edgar of Scotia and Merlyn of North Loup; daughters Mrs. Iva (Elery) King and Mrs. Ada (Victor) King both of North Loup; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, two brothers and one sister.
