Bio: JOHN J. SMOLKO age 93, passed away peacefully Monday, July 9, 2012 with family and friends by his side. He was reunited with his beloved wife Mary Theresa (nee Spirnak) in heaven on what would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary, and dear daughter Rita Marie welcomed him with balloons. He was born on March 24, 1919 to the late Jozef and Anna (nee Krisko) Smolko in Gates, PA. When he was a toddler his family went back to Czechoslovakia. John and his brother Joe came back to live in Cleveland, OH in their early 20's. John was an honorable WWII Veteran. He was proud to have served in the US Army and a member of St. Rita Parish since 1965. Dear father of Robert (Diane) and Christine Javor (Ken); cherished grandfather of Michele (Eddie), Carrie (Keith) and Robert, Jr., (Heather); loving great-grandfather of Joshua, Leslie, Ashley, Lindsey. John was looking forward to the birth of his fifth great-grandchild. Brother of Maria Stajanca (Jozef), Joseph, Anna Hajtas (Jan), and Pavol (Maria) (all deceased), brother-in-law of John (Mary) Spirnak (both deceased), Ann Bosela (John, deceased), and Michael S. (deceased) (Betty Jean) Spirnak, loving uncle, great uncle, great-great-uncle and godfather to Dr. J. Patrick Spirnak; cousin, and dear friend to many. Thank you to the loving staff at Emeritus at Brookside Estates Assisted Living, and the VNA Hospice for taking care of "Smoke". Funeral Services Saturday, July 14, 10 a.m. at TABONE KOMOROWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 33650 SOLON RD., (Just West of SOM Center), SOLON, OH 44139. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita Church. 32820 Baldwin Rd., Solon, OH. Interment Roselawn Cemetery, Solon, with military honors. Family will receive friends Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
