Amos was b. in 1764, and when thirteen years old enlisted in the Revolution and served to the close of the war, when he was one of Washington's Life Guards. When discharged he had not money enough to get home, and stopped to earn some by the way. After he reached home he married and settled in New Hampshire, but his young wife soon died. How he picked up an education is not known, but when about forty years old, he went to Canaan, Me., and taught district school and singing school; married Miss Weston and settled there, enduring all the hardships of a new country.... Mr. Baker having been a soldier in early life, he had a taste for military, and though nearly fifty years of age, enlisted near the close of the war of 1812, but his health giving out, he died suddenly in the army near Buffalo, Oct. 7, 1814.
