  1. Marriage Contract of Alexandro Cousso & Maria Francisca Paget.

The contract of his marriage to Marie Paget in 1771 describes him as natural de Pi_an [Piran?], la Diocese de Auch Provincia de Jena (or "native of Pi_an, the diocese, also province, of Jena"). Jena was the principal city in the landgravate of Thuringia (now a German federal state). The original document is difficult to read, but is this is accurate, Alexandro may have been a German in the employ of the French or Spanish (which also might account for the notary mixing a single dictated word of German -- Auch -- into his Spanish).
