On Oct. 29, 1769 Alexander Stockslager leased 85 acres on the South side of Tumbling Run in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for 5 shillings, to be paid to Martin Funk. The very next day Alexander bought the land for 200 pounds. He and his family relocated to present day Shenandoah County near Strasburg, Virginia.
