Albertina Tomkins (or Tompkins) was born on 19th September 1873 at Tebworth in the parish of Chalgrave, Bedfordshire. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Tomkins, formerly Robins, and her husband William Tomkins, an agricultural labourer. Albertina appears in the 1881 census living with her parents in Tebworth. By 1891, Albertina had left home and was working as a domestic servant in the nearby village of Houghton Regis.
On 25th June 1894, aged 20, Albertina married Walter Abimelech Moss at Christ Church in Luton. They settled in Luton after their marriage, having seven children there between 1895 and 1906, with their youngest two children being twins. The 1901 and 1911 censuses both find the family living at 46 Albert Road in Luton. Albertina was described as a straw machinist in 1911, presumably working in the straw hat industry which dominated the town at the time. Walter worked for the local council on the roads and sewers.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Albertina and Walter were living with their youngest son at 49 May Street in Luton.
Walter died in 1962, aged 89. Albertina survived him by about eight years. She died in 1970, aged 97.
