Ulbe J. Faber [22 April 2012]

Ulbe Faber is listed in the 1900 census as Ulbe Fahr Justus. He married Berber Minks Stavenga in Baarderadeel on 10 May 1883.--Jennifer (JBS66) 08:24, 22 April 2012 (EDT)

Aalert Tap [2 June 2012]

There are four birth records for Aaldert Tap known to GENLIAS; Aalert may be a misspelling. The youngest is probably too young, but there are two others born 1835 and 1849 who might work. I have not been able to demonstrate the presence of either of them in the US, or any Netherlands-American Tap or Tapp in Whatcom County.

There is a solid record for a Cornelius Tapp in Chicago born 1875 in the Netherlands. The census has different immigration dates for him, 1887 in 1910 and 1900 in 1930. In any case, there is no obvious connection to an Aalert/Aaldert Tap or Whatcom County, WA. (In addition, that Cornelius Tapp also has no obvious birth record in GENLIAS.)

Is this family a possibility? --Jennifer (JBS66) 16:35, 1 June 2012 (EDT)
Here is their marriage in the NL. Also, Drenlias has Aaldert's birth date as 7 Dec 1854 in Uffelte (Havelte). --Jennifer (JBS66) 16:44, 1 June 2012 (EDT)

He I found the same family https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XVDS-MRX --henk 04:47, 2 June 2012 (EDT)

OK, it looks like this family also only lived in the area a few years, at most 1895-1902. Then they moved back to Iowa. But it definitely looks like the right family. --Pkeegstra 07:42, 2 June 2012 (EDT)

Johannes Potgieter [1 June 2012]

There is a Johannes Potgieter known to GENLIAS born in 1821, who might be the grandfather of the Potgieter for whom we are looking. I was unable to locate any Potgieters in Whatcom County. Note that there are very large numbers of Potgieters in South Africa, and any unconstrained global search will be swamped by such entries. --Pkeegstra 11:45, 1 June 2012 (EDT)

I have added a page for Jennie Potgieter and her husband. Michigan birth records show her parents were John and Jennie. --Susan Irish 13:25, 1 June 2012 (EDT)

OK, that sounds like progress. We need a Johannes Potgieter alive in 1900, so unfortunately that's not the exact family we need. But I expect the Johannes we need is connected to these people somehow. --Pkeegstra 16:20, 1 June 2012 (EDT)

I think this is our family:

JOHAN POTGIETER, geboren Veldhausen 1 december 1870, overleden Cuttlerville Michigan 21 mei 1945, huwt 11 december 1891 SUSANNA MOHR, geboren Zeeland Michigan 10 juni 1874, overleden Grand Rapids Michigan 20 juni 1949, uit dit huwelijk werden 11 kinderen geboren, 1/2 & 5/11 te Allendale Michigan, 3/4 te Lynden Washington:

(The 3 children born before Nov 1900 matches the members list.)

They were hard to find because they were in Lynden at most from 1897 to 1903.

(Another reason they were hard to find is that this family of Potgieters emigrated to the US from Germany.) --Pkeegstra 17:16, 1 June 2012 (EDT)
