The following snippet seems to be a rational analysis of an idea that Hamilton suggested, but did not expand on.

According to the writings of Emory L. Hamilton, there is a possibilty that there may be a kinship of John English to the "Ingles" family of Draper's Meadow's massacre of July 30, 1755. The wife of William Ingles, Mary Draper Ingles, and her small son Thomas, then four years old, were taken captive by the Indians Shawnee and taken to Ohio. Mrs. Ingles made her escape, and the details of which has become the classic Indian story of Southwest Virginia.
William and Mary Ingles continued to live in the area until his death in 1782, leaving at least five children, who were: Susannah who married Abraham Trigg; Rhoda who married Byrd who married Byrd Smith; Mary who married John Gills, and Thomas and John Ingles (possibly John English; husband of Mary, aka Molly; father of Mary English Fraley, wife of Jesse Fraley.)
Time period, location and birth/death dates indeed make this assumption a possibility. However, there has not been a direct link established between John English and the Ingles of Draper Meadow.

A supporting point to this argument is the fact that the surname of John English, was spelled with some variability. For example MySource:Barnett to Randolph, 19 May 1787 spells the name "Inglishe", from which "Ingle's" could be an easy corruption---or the otherway around.

Apart from this conjecture, there seems to be no good indication of John English's parentage.
