The original picture was taken at the Elkhart hotel where Herman worked. The picture was of a number of people seated at a table in the hotel. This picture is a cutout from that.

They moved from Elkhart to Lafayette around 1931. It must from some time between 1928 and 1931. Mildred was pregnant for most of that period with Jack, Shirley, and Don. Since she isn’t obviously pregnant in this picture the best guess is summer 1928, just before or just after their marriage.
