Ron Rowell, Former President, Board of Directors, Choctaw/Kaskaskia, recently retired as chief executive officer of the Common Counsel Foundation in Oakland, California. He continues as a trustee of the Foundation. He earned his BA degree in South Asia Studies and his master's degree in Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley. He serves on the boards of Native Americans in Philanthropy, the Family Philanthropy Exchange of Northern California Grantmakers, emeritus of the Friendship House Association of American Indians of San Francisco, and president of the French-American Cultural Society of San Francisco at the Consul General of France. He was awarded the 2007 Bay Area American Indian Local Hero Award by KQED Public Television. He is an enrolled citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma of Choctaw, Kaskaskia, and French descent.
