The woman in this portrait appears to be the same woman as in the portrait "Mary Van Stone 2". Her hairstyle is the same, her cheeks are the same, her lips are downturned in the same fashion, her eyes and nose are similar. It is probably Mary Van Stone. The picture was taken by Brophey, in Goderich, Ontario. Mary lived in Goderich until 1890.
However, there is one other possibility. The picture was received from a descendant of Lucy Butt Viet. It is possible that this is a picture of her. Mary Van Stone is Lucy’s mother. However, Lucy was ten years old when the family moved away from Goderich to Bay City so it seems odd Lucy would go back years later to have a portrait taken there. Therefore this picture is most likely Mary Van Stone.
