Emil fought in the Franco-Prussian War 1870, in which he was awarded the distinguished Cross of Malta that can be viewed at his grave site, Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA. By 1871 he emigrated to Philadelphia, PA, where he set up shop as a barber. By 1876 he was able to send back to the old country for his bride, Anna BOMMERSHEIM, and her Mother and Aunt Julia- they were a "package deal," according to granddaughter Juila BROOK FOX in her history "Our Roots." I can find nothing on their early lives in Germany. Oral history maintains Anna was related to Adam GEIBEL, the world-famour composer. Emil & Anna had 4 daughters: Anna Maria, Carolyn "Lena," Katherine, and Julia. They married in order: GIRARD, ALBERT, REISINGER, BROOK, all Philadelphia, PA.
