BANKRUPTCY FRAUD AT THORNE Goods Removed at Night By Lorry Arhtur D Sprakes, grocer, of Thorne, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at Thorne Yesterday for nine breaches of the Bankruptcy Act. Mr F. W. Scorah (prosecuting) said Sprakes filed his petition in November 1934, disclosing liabilities of £819. His stock-in-trade was worth £5. His cash account showed an alleged loss of £1,116 for the 12 months before his bankruptcy. Mr Scorah alleged alleged that for many nights immediately preceding Sprakes's bankruptcy lorries went to and fro, taking goods from his business to a destination the prosecution did not know. Mr L. H. Brittain (for Sprakes) said he pleaded guilty. His trouble started with the industrial dispute of 1926 and continued until 1934. Through no fault of his own one of his vans was involved in an accident and a man was injured. It was found that there was no third party policy in force and Sprakes was so frightened that he lost his head.
