Family talk:Humphrey Scammon and Elizabeth Scammon (1)

Wrong wife [4 October 2010]

I believe the wife in this family is mistakenly identified as Elizabeth Jordan and certainly is wrongly identified as this Elizabeth Jordan since it shows a daughter b. 1645 to a father b. 1650 and a mother b. 1655. A deed in 1716 selling Nonsuch Farm to Roger Deering by the heirs of Robert Jordan provides many identifications of the various heirs. Robert Jordan's daughter Elizabeth was married to John Larrabee, and Elizabeth, the daughter of Dominicus Jordan, m. Humphrey Scammon Jr. (i.e., not Sr.). Given the age of Humphrey Scammon Sr., his wife could possibly be a daughter of Robert Jordan, but probably could not be any of the grandchildren. Source:Putnam, Eben. Putnam's Monthly Historical Magazine, p. 1:120, has an article on the Scammon family, and explicitly says that the family name of the wife of Humphrey Sr. is unknown. That she was named Elizabeth is known from birth record of Humphrey Jr. --Jrich 09:58, 2 October 2010 (EDT)
