    _TOPI: Marriage

  2. Yes, it seems improbable that a 68-year-old man would marry a 24-year-old girl. But, I submit, that it did happen. Jacob and his first wife, Ursula, had no children; therefore, Jacob had no heir. Jacob remarried six months after Ursula's death. Late marriages like Jacob's are unusual in the family, but not unique, and seem to have occurred when a man had no male heir. Another example was Johannes Fuoss (1643-1718). Johannes Fuoss was Jacob's uncle, his mother's brother. Johannes married Ursula Kainet in 1663 and had 14 children with her. Unfortunately, only one child, a daughter, seems to have survived to adulthoood. When Johannes' wife, Ursula, died, he remarried in 1703 (age 60) and again in 1705 (62), but had no more children and died without male heir.
