In 1786 Anna and John's daughter, Mollie McDonald, married Daniel Ross, a Scots trader who had begun to live among the Cherokee during the American Revolution. Thus, Ross was one-eighth Cherokee and seven-eighths Scots. Anna's husband acquired a tract of land on Chickamauga Creek (near present-day Chattanooga) that became the site of Brainerd Mission in 1817.
