The earliest man to appear in Wayne Co KY was a "long hunter" named Ned Cowan who camped with others in the Hines Cave per Augusta Phillips Johnson, "A Century in Wayne Co Kentucky", Standard Printing Co, Louisville, KY.
The following men are thought by descendants to be brothers, due to the DOB's, John C.-1783, Samuel 1787, and Andrew 1786-91. No proof positive found.

and is found on the tax list of 1839.

Next door, they are living next to Andrew Cowan, Jr.-41 b. VA and wife: Arnethia-31 b. Ky and their children. Next to them is a Margaret Cowan-24, a domestic, living with a Brown Family.

Notes of Andrew's granddaughter, Rhoda Cowan Hutchison, wrote in her family records that her grandfather, Andrew was the son of John Cowan who lived in Virginia; and that he was the brother of James G., and Samuuel Cowan. She further claimed that their 4th brother was Tazewell Cowan, who never came to KY
