Enumeration Districts

The descriptions which follow were the original descriptions of each enumeration district in the South subdivision of the Lincoln registration district. The Public Record Office (PRO) references and film numbers are also provided.

District 1

Enumeration District 1 was described, “All the parish of Skellingthorpe.” Skellingthorpe was in the Lower Division of the wapentake of Boothby Graffoe.

District 2

Enumeration District 2 was described, “All the parish of Doddington with the hamlet of Swinethorp.” Doddington was in the Lower Division of the wapentake of Boothby Graffoe. Swinethorpe was an extra-parochial place within the Higher Division of Boothby Graffoe.

District 3

Enumeration District 3 was described, “All the Parish of Eagle, Eagle Moor, Eagle Barnsdale and the extra parochial place of Eagle Hall with Eagle Woodhouse also Extra Parochial.” Eagle was in the Higher Division of the wapentake of Boothby Graffoe.

Enumeration District 7 was described, “All that part of Waddington called the Low Field, and that part of the Parish lying west of the principal or high street.”

Enumeration District 8 was described, “All that upper part of Waddington parish called the High Field lying on the east side of the principal or High street, and extending eastward to the Lincoln and London Turnpike road.”

Waddington was in the liberty of Lincoln.

Enumeration District 13 was described, “All that part called The Heath in the several parishes of Metheringham, Dunston, Nocton and Harmston, lying between the Lincoln and London Turnpike road on the west, and the Fen Row Road on the east including Mr Grimes' House in the parish of Metheringham and the two Lodges in the parish of Nocton.”

Enumeration District 14 was described, “All that part called the Heath in the Parishes of Branston, Potter Hanworth, and Waddington, lying east of the Lincoln and London Turnpike road, including the Extra Parochial place called the Mere Hospital or St. John's Heath, and that part called Branston Moor, in the parish of Branston, extending from east to west from the Fen Row Road to the Car Dyke.” Potter Hanworth was in the Second Division of the wapentake of Langoe, and the remainder was in the liberty of Lincoln.

District 15

Enumeration District 16 was described, “All the Parish of Heighington lying west of the ancient Car Dyke.”

Enumeration District 17 was described, “All the Parish of Washingborough lying west of the ancient Car Dyke.”

The parish of Washingborough was in the Second Division of the wapentake of Langoe, and the township of Heighington was in Washingborough.

Branston was in the liberty of Lincoln.

Enumeration District 22 was described, “All that part of the Parish of Metheringham lying between the Fen Row Road and the Barf.”

Enumeration District 23 was described, “All the remaining part of the Parish of Metheringham lying east of the village called the Barf, The Fen, The Field, and the Tan Vats.”

Metheringham was in the Second Division of the wapentake of Langoe.

Districts 24 and 25

Enumeration District 24 was described, “All that part of the Parish of Bardney lying on the South side of the Ferry road and including that part of the parish called the Low Field and the Hamlet of Southrow in the said Parish.”

Enumeration District 25 was described, “All the remaining part of the Parish of Bardney lying on the north side of the Ferry road, including the Abbey grounds [and] the Dairies.”

Bardney was in the West Division of the wapentake of Wraggoe.

Enumeration District 26 was described, “All the Parish of Stainfield.” Stainfield was in the West Division of the wapentake of Wraggoe.
