From the Introduction: "This volume contains the only official record of nearly three thousand marriages from Northumberland County. There was no marriage register prior to 1850, and these loose papers, many of which have unquestionably been lost or destroyed, are the only record of hundreds of marriages of importance to those interested in Virginia genealogy. Among those missing are the bonds for 1850, but the returns of ministers have been located and included in this list."
