Usage Tips

All of us involved in the field of history and genealogy in Virginia owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to Freddie Stradlin, who took upon himself to painstakingly, key stroke by key stroke, word or word, reproduce the invaluable "Statutes of Virginia" originally compiled by William Waller Hening in 1832. This 13-volume work covers the Acts of Assembly passed between 1619 an 1792. In and of itself it was a monumental task even in 1823.

Thanks to efforts of Mr. Stradlin, the entire collection is now online. And it includes something Mr. Hening could have never imagined: a search function for anything at any time.

Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, also made this material available in 1958 and the films may be ordered through the nearest Family History Center.
