NOTE: There are two places named Twizell in Northumberland, England. The other is named Twizell (near Norham) and is much further north in what was Norhamshire and the Norham and Islandshires Rural District. It is now part of the civil parish of Norham.


A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Twizell from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"TWIZELL, a township in Morpeth parish, Northumberland; 8 miles SW by S of Morpeth. Acres: 758. Population: 52. Houses: 10."

Twizell in Morpeth was a township in the ancient parish of Morpeth in Northumberland and became a separate civil parish in 1866. From 1894 it was part of Castle Ward Rural District. In 1955 the civil parish was abolished and the area was absorbed into the parish of Whalton.
