For a definition of "wapentake", see the article entitled Hundred (county division) in Wikipedia.

Wapentakes, the Old Norse form of the Anglo-Saxon "hundred", are dealt with in Section 1.4, but Sections 1.1 (Hundred courts) and 1.2 (Administrative functions) deal with the concept and purposes of wapentakes along with those of "hundreds" used in English counties further south.

Strafforth and Tickhill, originally known as Strafforth, was the southernmost wapentake in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The original meeting place of the wapentake is unknown, but may have been the future site of Conisbrough Castle. The west of the district, plus a detached area in the east, constituted the Upper Division(#14 on the map), while the central area and a detached part in the extreme east constituted the Lower Division(#5 on the map).
