Poolewe (Scottish Gaelic Poll Iù) is about 75 miles (120 km) north-west from Inverness in Scotland. It is a tiny, neat village snuggled in the sheltered haven of Loch Ewe where one of the shortest rivers in Scotland, the River Ewe, joins the sea less than 1 mile (1.6 km) from Inverewe Garden, renowned world-wide for its subtropical plants. The village is picturesquely situated surrounded by mountains and the sea. Geographically, Poolewe is in the beautiful region of Wester Ross, in the North West Highlands of Scotland.

Poolewe has a relatively warm climate for its latitude, thanks to the Gulf Stream or the North Atlantic Drift. The Gulf Stream produces an almost sub-tropical climate at times; Inverewe Garden could not exist without it. While the winter in Poolewe is generally cold and wet, the maritime location means that it receives only a few days of snow a year.
