A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Chineham from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"CHINEHAM, a tything in Monk-Sherborne parish, Hants; 1 mile NE of Basingstoke. Acres: 520. Real property, with West Sherborne: £3,717. Population: 34."

A Vision of Britain through Time states it was an ancient parish which ended "early".
