Person talk:Moses Gould (1)

Watchers

death date [20 February 2018]

I removed the unsourced death date of 20 OCT 1772, location unspecified.

Source:Peck, Thomas Bellows. Bellows Genealogy or John Bellows, the Boy Emigrant of 1635 and His Descendants, p. 18, says, "Moses Gould, of Lunenburg, Mass., was born in Boxford, Mass., Sept. 18, 1703, and is said by Benjamin A. Gould to have died Oct. 20, 1772."

Actually, Source:Gould, Benjamin Apthorp. Family of Zaccheus Gould of Topsfield, gives no death date for Moses #74 (p. 61), but gives 20 Oct 1772 as the death date of Amos #128 (p. 71). This is pertinent because an apparently unreadable birth record, named ending in s, was interpreted years later by town clerk John Bacon as Amos, but which church records show was Moses. Bacon appears to have marked Amos' death as the son of Samuel and Margaret instead of his correct parents, propagating his error. Incidentally, Amos' death in Boxford, not Lunenburg where Moses would be expected, was recorded as 30 Oct, not 20 Oct as reported by Benjamin A. Gould, but he does ignore Bacon's error, and identifies the correct parents.

No death of Moses is recorded in either Boxford or Lunenburg, and there is no probate file for him. --Jrich 22:38, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
